One World Hunger - Help End World Hunger

Today, thousands of people in California, and millions across the United States, experience hunger because they cannot afford adequate food. Local families are struggling even more this year to put food on the table because of the recent economic downturn and the high cost of living in the state.

As the impact of the recession continues to be felt among thousands of Californian families, our project is to open a OWH Food Bank by Summer of 2012 to ensure that everyone, regardless of age or background, has regular access to healthy food.

Various populations are at a greater risk for hunger than others. The most vulnerable among us are children, elders, families who have been overwhelmed by the impact of unemployment, foreclosures, and high priced health care costs. OWH food bank will make sure no individuals within our surrounding community go to bed hungry.

Many low-income families throughout the state simply do not have enough money to buy basic foods like milk, bread, cereal, or fresh fruit. As a result, too many children don't get breakfast at home, and are forced to attend school hungry. These students are disturbed, uptight or fatigue and unenergetic. They are not able to begin the school day with concentrative minds.

In addition, hunger can lead to obesity when poor families must rely on inexpensive, high calorie foods that are energy opaque, but without nutrients. Obesity among children has been shown to lead to serious health issues with a long-term impact, including cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and asthma.

Our goal for 2012, is to open OWH Food Bank in Fremont, CA for our community.
